Who is involved and where it occurs
There are many different elements within a ritual, which includes who participates and where the ritual occurs. This is evident in the Mt Alvernia College mass it is divergent due to the particularly Franciscan flavor on many aspects. Catholic masses always occur in a consecrated church this is divergent to the College Mass in that it was performed in a sports hall named San Damiano. The name san damiano has special importance to the Franciscan tradition, as it was the place that St Francis first received his calling to rebuild the church in 1205. It is also the place that St Clare a close follower of St Francis founded the order of poor Clare’s in 1212. (Fr David Kaczmarek, N.D. paragraph 2)
It was an off branch of this order the Franciscan Sisters in Glasgow that Elizabeth Hayes first joined before founding the Missionary Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, which then in turn founded this school. The participants also vary slightly from a traditional mass in that a Franciscan Father (father Steven) presides over the Mass, members of the order of the Missionary Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception and members from Delamore come down to create an overriding sense of Franciscan spirituality. Through the different elements such as who particapates and the importance of the location, you can see how the Mt Alvernia College mass is divergent to other Catholic Masses
